Western Heights
The Western Heights is a Napoleonic fort, later used in WWII, in conjunction with the Dover Castle on the opposite side of the valley. The fort commands views over the strategic port and also with its geographical location, provides outstanding land defence should a landing force be able to land.
The area also includes the 'Grand Shaft', allowing infantry to traverse up and down the cliff with ease. The grand shaft consists of 3 stacked spiral stair cases, each determined by rank of the people travelling on them.
